Inspired by The Blair Witch Project and a friend's visit to a haunted stately home, the creators of Most Haunted - presenter Yvette Fielding and her husband, director/executive producer Karl Beattie - ploughed their life savings into making our favourite digital show, now on its seventh series.

"We had no idea if it was going to work but I've never felt so passionate about an idea as I dd about this one," says former Blue Peter presenter Yvette, 36. Its appeal lies in seeing the show's crew - and Yvette in particular - being scared witless as they investigate the world's spookiest locations.

They're often accused of faking their terror, but rigger Stuart Torrevell recently developed alopecia after being repeatedly kicked in the stomach by an unknown force at Gloucestershire's Ancient Ram Inn. "He had bruises all across his torso," says Yevette, "It was awful".

Also accused of faking it is the show's medium, Derek Acorah, whose "possessions" have made him as talked about as the show. Yvette denies reports that they've fallen out over Derek's pursuit of fame, but wouldn't rule out the rumours he's quitting MH: "There's change afoot." Right now they're both busy preparing for MH Live this weekend, when they'll investigate a mystery location on live TV over three nights.

"No doubt I'll be clinging on to Derek the whole time," she laughs. If it's that scary, why do it? "It's a roller coaster, I love it. Although if I wasn't involved, I doubt I'd even watch. I'd be too frightened."
